Owning every book that he has written and published on Amazon I think I can honestly say that I am familiar with his writing. While following much of the same plots and guidelines of previous books this one is different because the main opening character is only 8 years old.Secondly the hero of the story is the strong and silent, self educated, surprisingly rich, and chivilous prospector who not only saves the day, rescues the young man and his guardian, but kills all of the bad guys and lives happily every after.There's a reason books like this sell; people want happy ever afters. Men especially; because that means that we can give that to our wives, children, and family when the world keeps trying to get us to give up. Good Job C.J.
Another Super Read by CJP, with the expected creative storylines to complement the basic themes, this time the greedy relative plot line. However, in Abandoned some shift of style that significantly enhanced the book. While a Master of Character development, in Abandoned most primary characters seemed to be introduced and active and their personalities and back stories evolved through the story. The book really demanded involvement, basically hated to take breaks from reading. I only wish that I had not already read all of CJP's works multiple times so that I would have another adventure to go to without waiting 3 to 4 weeks! One side note if CJP ever reads these, a few books ago you took some hits from another western author, I just tried to read his latest effort and must say he should not worry so much about the color of your gun smoke and more about realism in his own work, just saying.
I chose to give this book a flat zero full of useless page filling conversation very stupid adventure story to much stupid reference of a person riding back where he helped abandom the boy and the boy and lady just to rape and kill her (stupid) i have read someof Petit before i was only able to finish one tbe rest i had to give up less than halfway through. I would not recomend this or any other book written by Petit
CJP has penned a western about a western man who lives ten miles outside Laramie. He finds an abandon woman and young boy. He leads them back to civilization only to find that the man who left them was planning to kill then again. The man is deputies to protect the woman and young man until he could get the to safety. This begins the expansion of the story.This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
This book covers many exciting adventures. I enjoyed the action and the personal emotions. It is a western and a love story. It is about jealousy, greed, generosity, and passion. All of it very well expressed. There are typo’s and grammatical errors. The story of the author explains these errors. To me the errors make the book more human. I really cannot recommend this book enough.
I wait for each new novel and grab them as soon as I can buy it to keep...this one was just to sweet for my taste and I am a 72 year old grandmother...Just not up to the level of Gabe Owens and Return to Wilmore....I need the gun fights and rides into danger....this one on par with Haven which I also did care for....gave it 4 stars because I love C J Petits writing but just not this one
As with most Petit stories I have read, they are generally romance novels. This one didn’t even try to hide it. His story lines seem good, but he spends way to much time with the romance and not enough with the western. I usually don’t write reviews, but I need to remind myself why I quit Petit a while ago. This book reminded me.
I say generic because his books follow a certain line. This is good in my opinion since they do fit the western romance novel theme extremely well.. The man is very prolific... he must write a book a week! also good. As a student of the old west I find so much of his stuff is little known but true. I also find that he tends to get a tad mixed up on the firearms stuff... although not as bad as some. yeah yeah.. the 1973 Winchester was in 44 WCF and he says henry 44 rimfire but hey... and the bulldog was never in either. I can actually live with that.Also.. if he is the editor of his own books? he needs to actually hire someone.. if he has paid someone he needs to fire em. Sometimes the sentences make no sense and you have to substitute or switch around the words to make em work. he might say 'he' when he means 'she' he might change the name of a minor character from say 'Lorna' to "norma" but it is easy to figure out... a minor annoyance. In any case.. these are fun books to read that are feel good books. I also love that each stands on it's own and often he has an 'epilogue' that explains what happened to the characters... some are extremely interesting.
