Personally I loathe hearing medical words and definitions, even if it’s a serious illness. I mean what’s the point when I can’t understand half of it. This book is a relief from all the Googling I did on this subject.In some places different tips and situations, or ‘additions’ and such things are included. For example there was one defining a situation where the father sends his son to get blood drawn instead of him since he is afraid of needles. To complicate matters more, bother father and son had the same names. Luckily before the surgery this was found out, surgery cancelled and the father sent for his own blood test.This is written in simple English (i.e. no big medical terms) and would be an essential read for both the patient and their family to get a better impression of the surgery and their situation.
This book is an eye opener and educating. I was never aware of how many pre-op test there are for open-heart surgery. I have learned that a CT scan also called the Cardiac Computerized Tomography test is essentially an x-ray of your heart. What is also interesting about this test is that with the aid of a computer, this test combines several x-ray images to produce a cross section of your heart. That is why I love this book! It educates the reader on numerous diagnosis,pre-tests and preparation for open heart surgery. Also I loved how fast this book was delivered to my digital library so i can begin reading. I suggest you buy this book thank you and god bless.
Recently my dad was told that he had to undergo open heart surgery for valve replacement, and he is quite elderly. My mom and I were looking for a book that described how to prepare and the ins and outs of the surgery. This book was exactly what we needed! It is written in clear easy to understand language and makes several good points about what you have to deal with before, during, and after the surgery. I highly recommend this-it helped my dad come through the surgery and heal really well.
This is the single most useful thing I read for my peace of mind when preparing for my open heart surgery. The author, a surgical nurse, lead me through the usual surgical experience in the hospital in a way that left me feeling ready to handle it. The post-op tips were down-to-earth and nicely oriented towards my comfort rather than just medical necessity. And it's a short enough read that you can insist that your loved ones read it as well (there are tips in there for them as well). I'm not generally a fan of online books, but buying this one is a no brainer. Buy it!
I did not like this book. It was very matter of fact. It was clinical. It had little to no preop info or advise. It also included info like "being cut open with a recipercating type saw" information she hesitated to include. This book offered only details in my opinion and I do not feel better having read it. I have since read several online OHS survivor accounts and to me they offered a more real life account of what to expect and how to better prepare.
I will soon have an aortic valve replacement and have been searching Google & YouTube since my cardiologist has been very sparse in what he has told me. This book has been the most comprehensive source of information that I have found so far.
The book offers clear, factual information on what to expect as a patient undergoing heart surgery. It gives helpful insights on the best way to prepare for the surgery and what to expect while you are in the hospital. It also cheer leads you through your 12 week post surgery recovery.
This book gave a detailed account of open heart surgery so that patients and family members alike can grasp what happens in the operating room. Great read.
