Guess what? Like others, I neglected to check the POSTED dimensions of this book before ordering it, choosing to assume a work book would be big. Was I disappointed that a less-than-$2 book was small? No, I laughed, glanced through it, and decided it would be perfect for use in the car. Should I rate a perfectly good, travel-sized book only one star because of my own neglect, or shall I be a rational adult?
I've gotten several of these Little Dover activity books to take for my four-year-old daughter on airplanes and to restaurants. I think they are great. The "spot the difference" ones are about her favorite, though she does like to have a grown-up sit with her (even though she doesn't need the help). When I ordered my first, I was pleasantly surprised at how thick they were--I was worried they'd be only 4 or 8 pages like the Little Dover sticker sets, but they aren't--they're much more substantial.
My 4 year old son loves hidden pictures and has gone through just about every dover little activity book with them. I saw this and decided to try it. While the puzzles are a little on the easy side for him (he's a super spotter for his age!), it is just different enough from the traditional search and find that I keep in my purse and know that he will be occupied doing a few pages if we get stuck waiting somewhere or if I need him to chill out for a few minutes while we're out and about. A perfect size to take along anywhere, I usually have one or two dover little activity books in the car and another in my purse at all times, just in case. Good options for non treat stocking stuffers, easter basket treasures, etc. too.
Too easy for my 6 year old daughter. Got it for a long car ride and it lasted only 15-20 minutes. Better suited for 4-5, in my opinion.
Much smaller than I was expecting, but it's perfect (I posted a picture next to a normal size book - approx. size is 8'' x11'')! Got this for my 3 year old for an upcoming car trip. I think it will be perfect for him! I'm was surprised that there were 27 sets of illustrations! Glad that there aren't a lot of differences per set, I feel like we will be able to just verbally list them so that the book can be reused, if not by us, at least by someone else! There are also answers provided!
The books arrived promptly and in good order. Remember that these are little books and not necessarily for little children. The books are paperback but they are only 4.25" wide and 5.75" high. They are nice for children who are older than 6 or 7 but, in my opinion, they are way too small for children that are any younger than that. These books were perfect for my needs as my 6 year old grandson is taking a long trip by train (with his parents of course) but he gets bored easily so these little books should keep his mind active and he loves to solve math problems and picture puzzles. I would recommend but remember that these are very small books.
My grandmother has loved hocus focus since I can remember, but I had trouble finding them. This is great book for the price. It's a little smaller than expected, but that's my fault for not looking at the measurements. The bottom of each page has the number of items to find on it, which is great. I plan on ordering more of their hidden picture/spot the difference books. This is going to be a great Christmas surprise.
I was disappointed by how small the book is (about the size of my palm, when u open it, two palms). This isn't meant for a child to go through the book with an adult unless you enjoy crouching over and fighting for viewing space. I should've just went for good ol' I Spy books. I didn't get a chance to flip through the pages before wrapping it up as a gift so I can't speak for the quality of the content.
